Steering Committee Newsletter

Greetings BOOP Families,

It has been a busy and productive fall. Please come join the conversation on November 13th at 6PM for our 2nd quarter BOOP community meeting. This a great way to satisfy volunteer hours while catching up on BOOP business and upcoming events. Sara and the 5/6 students will be offering childcare in gym for $5/child or $20/family to raise funds for Challenger camp.

Classroom supply fee contributions are still being collected. If you have not contributed please contact your teacher or BOOP treasurer Jessica Short. Your contribution is used to reimburse teachers for classroom supplies already purchased. Scholarships for supplies are available.

Wow, fundraising has been outstanding! Thanks to our generous community and volunteer organizers  $1000 was raised for the BOOP Uncle Joe’s general fundraiser. Our gratitude and appreciation for organizing goes to Jarette and Mera Boling. The 5/6 smoothie bake sale fundraiser was a huge success, raising nearly $1800, helping our students near the $5000 goal for Challenger camp. Mary Ann and Sang did a wonderful job organizing and running this event, thank-you ladies!

BOOP and Chugach families are invited as Janis Heigl hosts a family math night in Chugach Optional library on Monday, November 11 from 6-7:30pm.  This event is designed for families to learn more about the Bridge Math Curriculum and discover ways to engage in math with our child at home.  We are encouraging families to complete the form if they are interested in attending.  This will help plan for the event.

Mark your calendars and if possible come in and join the fun for upcoming winter crafts happening Wednesday December 18th. Volunteer and supply signups will be out soon. Mini course online registration will open Dec.2. If you are considering creating a course we are still open to course leaders. Go to to submit your course. Check out the BOOP website for more upcoming events and volunteer opportunities

As we enter the holiday season please consider what you may have to contribute towards our community service efforts. Sara Paulson our community service coordinator continues to take collections for the food pantry. Current needs can be found at Many thanks to Kyong Green for getting this up and running! We are collecting items for Thanksgiving baskets.

All items except pies can be brought to the gym. Treats for the Troops are being collected in the foyer. Bring your unwanted Halloween candy.

I truly appreciate all of the parents, grandparents and community members that have made an effort this first quarter to volunteer in and out of the classroom. Without all of your support, our program would not be the amazing community of learners it is. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to myself or a committee member. I hope to see you all at the 2nd quarter meeting.

Many Blessings!
T Barnett, Steering Committee Chair
